EXPLORING NEW ZEALAND BY BIKE: APRIL 2026
In April this year Andrea and Russell from Kingscote and Trish and Tony from Victor Harbor visited New Zealand south Island for some bike riding. Starting at Hokitika,we did 4 days on the west coast wilderness trail to Greymouth.
Russell spotted a kiwi but the sighting was immediately discredited by those who hadn't seen it!
The riding was sometimes challenging and technical and included one very wet day. Each day was different and it was great to reach our accommodate each night.
A trip to Doubtful sound came next and a great ride from Lake Te anau to Lake Manipouri The trails are quite narrow in places and thankfully we didn’t encounter too much oncoming bike traffic.
We rode the central Otago rail trail from Clyde to Middlemarch over four days which is a more sedate trail taking in the beautiful colours of autumn. There are many other trails to ride in NZand this time of year was a good combination of great weather and low tourist numbers
